Briggs is in the process of introducing several new parts that will improve Animal and World Formula racing in '07.

First is a new cylinder assembly, Part # 555687, list price $110.25. This cylinder has additional bracing from the clutch side rear of the control mounting boss to the fins of the cylinder. See Photo A - (click photos for larger view).

Photo AIf you are replacing an older block, your cylinder shield sheet metal will not fit the new block. It will be necessary to drill a 3/8" hole and cut along lines indicated in Photo B with tin snips.Photo B Everything then fits.

A new cylinder head is coming. This head has a steel insert with an extended tab inserted in the exhaust port cylinder head bolt hole. See Photo C. This insert is intended to cool the area around the bolt,Photo C leading to longer valve life and reducing distortion of the exhaust pipe flange. The insert will be available as service part #555690.

Available as Part #555698 is an Animal/WF head gasket with a metal "fire ring" around the cylinder.

New B&S PVL flywheel and ignition systems are being installed in new Animals and World Formulas. The flywheel consists of a steel center with an aluminum casting to complete the wheel. The flywheel uses the plastic fan and mounting bolts from the current Animal flywheel. Photo DSee photo D.

The new flywheel is about the same weight as the current Animal flywheel. For the World Formula motor, this is a significant reduction of about 3 pounds. This weight reduction will result in faster acceleration off the corners for the World Formula, a real benefit.

The flywheel must be used with the new B&S PVL ignition coil which uses 4 legs to incorporate a rev limiter into each version. The Animal rev limit is 12,000 rpm. The World Formula has a 7100 rpm rev limit. The new unit is self contained, requiring only a wire to the On/Off switch. This will eliminate the potential problem of the wires coming loose from the separate rev limiter on the World Formula.

The Animal PVL kit is Part #555685, list $85.00. The World Formula version is Part# 557127, list $88.00.

All these parts are acceptable under 2007 IKF Technical Regulations.

IKF Requests Information from Clutch Manufacturers for Sprint Super Sportsman Classes
The Board of Directors of the International Kart Federation is investigating the possibility of reinstating the use of multi-disk dry clutches in the Super Sportsman classes in the Sprint division. In preparation for this we are requesting that each clutch manufacturer submit for consideration shop drawings, specifications, and samples of clutches from your catalog that are suitable for these classes. All information submitted will be treated as Confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside of our technical staff and Directors.

Submissions must be received at the IKF Office no later than Wednesday, January 10, 2007. The clutches will be scrutinized and tested and a set of minimum standards will be submitted as a Proposal at the Spring Board Meeting, for consideration at the Fall Board Meeting.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, please contact Mr. John Pence at 925-759-9460 or Mr. Jack Hoegerl at 309-793-0118.
