TaG Work Group Updates Leopard Exhaust Port Rule

Please note that the change below has not yet been adopted by the International Kart Federation. Approval of the change by the IKF will be posted on this website.

The TAG Work Group announces a change to the Parilla Leopard exhaust port height specification to 1.380”. The group made this change to resolve the discrepancy between the measurements originally provided by IAME in its engine specifications in 2000 and the one developed from a sample engine examined by WKA in late 2004 and adopted by TAG USA and other sanctioning bodies in early 2005. The original IAME manufacturing specification was set at 171 degrees duration. The dimension WKA developed from the sample engine was 1.415” as measured with the LAD tool. The new 1.380” dimension corresponds to IAME’s original 171 degree measurement.

This change was reached after exhaustive negotiations between the TAG Work Group members from IKF, KART, SKUSA, TAG USA , and WKA and representatives of Italian Motors and Russell Karting Specialties. The five sanctioning bodies will implement the change individually to fit their own schedule of rule changes.

Italian Motors and Russell Karting recognize that there may be a perceived performance difference between pre-2005 engines produced near the lower 1.415” dimension and the 2005 engines manufactured closer to the 1.380” dimension. To alleviate any performance concerns on the part of owners of the lower ported cylinders, Italian Motors and Russell Karting have agreed to an exchange program that will allow engine owners to purchase a complete exchange kit at below cost. This kit will replace the existing cylinders with the later, higher ported cylinders. This exchange is purely at the engine owner’s option as the existing cylinders are still legal under the revised rule, and many competitors feel that the original cylinder is preferable.

The exchange kit will cost $300 USD and consist of a new cylinder, piston, ring, clips, pin, upper cage, and base gasket. To receive a new cylinder, simply visit the Italian Motors website at http://www.italianmotors.com or Russell Karting website at http://www.russellkarting.com and download the exchange kit form. Complete this form and fax it back for approval. Italian Motors or Russell Karting will reply with information on where to return the old cylinder for exchange and will ship the new kit in return.

Reaching consensus on the Parilla Leopard exhaust port specification and negotiating the exchange program demonstrates the TAG Work Group’s value to the TAG competitors. This joint action maintains the common TAG engine rules announced by the TAG Work Group on August 4, 2005 . Without having IKF, KART, SKUSA, TAG USA , and WKA working together in a spirit of cooperation and consensus, it would have been difficult, if not impossible, to reach a common solution to this difficult problem. The members of the group continue to be committed to maintaining the common TAG engine rules package.

For further information on the cylinder exchange program, please contact Italian Motors, Russell Karting, or your organization’s TAG Work Group representative.

September 3, 2005 – Rosamond, CA
A Hurricane Relief Fund was founded at the IKF Region 7 Southwestern Super Series event held at Willow Springs Kart Track in Rosamond, CA this past weekend. Supported by the members of the IKF Region 7 Sprint division and their families, a total of  $4,276.50 was collected to assist those in need after their encounter with Hurricane Kartina and is being donated to the American Red Cross Hurricane Relief fun in the name of the IKF Region 7 Southwestern Super Series.

The fundraising efforts began with a collection effort moving from pit to pit and race team to race team efforts brought in nearly $1500.00.

Two young girls then set up a table in the pits and prepared snow cones for those that contributed to the relief effort. Additionally, matching funds were donated by Luis Martinez from Martinez Racing/ Position One motorsports and  Raul Martinez of Martinez Racing/ King Taco. At the end of the fundraising efforts, a bonus donation of $500.00 was given by the members of Miinch Motorsports.

The drivers, crews, volunteers and supporters challenge other karting events and series to start their own fundraising efforts and hope you can match or even beat the total raised at this event.
